Colored base stamp

A printing error occurring on the Colored Numbered Krájcárs.

Description: “The printing ink is rubbed in with a deerskin pad, while the surface of the plate is wiped with light gauze. It rarely happens that the gauze absorbs ink, is not replaced, and is thus unable to wipe the ink from the surface of the plate without a trace. A very fine layer of ink remains on the surface of the plate, which colors the weakly glued, highly absorbent paper during printing, and thus the stamp looks as if it had been printed on colored paper.” (MBM. III. p. 607)
